Yate take the points after nine-goal thriller

-

YATE Town emerged victorious from a titanic battle with fellow Southern League Premier Division South strugglers Gosport – winning 5-4 at Lodge Road.

Boss John Rendall, right, saw his side fall behind in the first minute and later blow a two-goal lead before finally taking the points.

Dan Wooden put Gosport ahead early on, but Kyle Tooze, Ben McLean and Zach Drew had Yate 3-1 up by the midpoint of the half.

However, a Brett Williams brace pulled the visitors level by the 62nd minute, although Tooze was on the mark within a minute to put the hosts back in front.

Drew then grabbed his second to put Yate two goals clear again, so Issiaga Kaba’s goal was not enough to earn Gosport a draw.

At the top of the table, leaders Weston-super-Mare slipped to a 1-0 defeat at Beaconsfield. Elliott Buchanan scored midway through the second period.

However, nearest challengers Truro failed to take advantage as they lost 3-1 at third-placed side Chesham, who were three goals up at the break.

Salisbury are in the play-off places following a 1-0 win away to Harrow Borough, Marvin Brooks netting on 78 minutes.

Swindon Supermarine, however, lost 5-3 at home to Hayes & Yeading
