Those in power have not been listening

-

SINCE about the 10th century, there has been a gathering, or a form of parliament, in this country. It is now the 21st century. How long does it take to get things right?

Every opposition throughout the years has tried to make it look like it was the incumbent government that was making a pig’s ear of things. It seems they all have very short memories.

MPs canvass before elections, there are articles in the media, and more than enough comments on social media, for the powers that be to get even an inkling of what is needed to put things right in this country. Or at least to grow a backbone and stop wasting money.

I know a certain number of things have changed. We don’t shove children up chimneys to clean them, or make them work under weaving looms any more, for instance. But the air quality is no better than what we had in previous centuries (except minus the fog, I suppose), and the water quality in our rivers is frankly disgusting.

This is just a couple of things on a very long list.
