Seabrook to depart Kingsholm for Saints

ACADEMY product Tom Seabrook has become the first Gloucester Rugby player to have his exit from Kingsholm at the end of the season confirmed - but he is not expected to be the last.

Seabrook, 23, will join Northampton Saints ahead of the 2023/24 season with plenty of movement at the club expected after a couple of years of stability.

Seabrook, inset, made an instant impact on his Cherry and Whites debut in the Premiership back in 2018 against Saracens, scoring after just 58 seconds to set a new league record. Since then, the centre/wing has made 61 appearances for Gloucester, scoring nine tries.

Last week reports surfaced that former club captain Billy Twelvetrees and backrower Jordy Reid are likely to depart with Championship club Ealing Trailfinders said to be a potential destination for both men.

Head coach George Skivington has discussed trying to build a squad within the reduced £5m Premiership salary cap and admitted he has told some players they have no future at the club.

Skivington said: “The reality of the cap at the moment, and the last few years, depending on how you’ve done your accounting, even in our case where we didn’t take advantage of some of the loopholes which other clubs did which are possibly catching up on them now; we didn’t do that, but even in our position, we can’t keep everyone in the building.

“It’s really hard now because not everyone wants to take a pay cut, you have to discuss it and some people have to take a pay cut - that’s it. We’re pretty good at bringing these young lads through but we’re maxed out in terms of allowances available, so you’ve got to say goodbye to people.”
