Get ready to PARTI
Ammanford and Ystradgynlais are hosting a unique new dance experience this November...
NATIONAL Dance Company Wales (Ndcwales) presents a brand-new dance experience this November. PARTI brings a local community cast onto stages in Ammanford and Ystradgynlais alongside Ndcwales’ dancers.
Audiences will experience a unique performance designed for each venue – the Welfare, Ystradgynlais and Theatr Y Glowyr, Ammanford – with dance at its heart.
The programme includes a bitesize dance work from Ndcwales’ new artistic director Matthew Robinson, a brand new work from Neath-born dance artist Thomas Carsley and a co-creation by Emily Robinson with local performers from Ammanford and Ystradgynlais dancing alongside Ndcwales company dancers.
The show rounds off with nibbles, drinks and music with live folk band Allan yn y Fan.
“This is a one-of-a-kind project which I’m very excited to be facilitating as a local artist,” says Robinson. “Following a co-creative approach, the community will be put in the driver’s seat, giving a platform to local voices of all ages. Audiences can expect a vibrant piece – full bodied and playful.”
Neath-born Thomas Carsley, a finalist in the BBC Young Dancer 2019 competition, has been dancing since the age of 11. His style of dance and choreography comes from contemporary/hip hop movement. His new piece for Ndcwales, Fan The Flames, will feature three Ndcwales dancers. It’s billed as “an elegant, energetic and emotive dance that will leave you ready to tackle the future”.
Matthew Robinson’s new duet, No Show, is an explosive blend of classical music and high-speed dancing, a window into the cartoonish antics of two friends getting ready to party.
“PARTI is a brilliant moment to come together, to share a laugh, to catch up and to dance,” says Robinson.
“I am thrilled that No Show will be part of the event – it’s going to be a great night out.”
Wynne Roberts, manager at the Welfare, Ystradgynlais, adds: “This is a really exciting project for us to be part of. Our audiences are always keen to see what Ndcwales will do next and this time they can be part of the show as well as see new pieces from the company. Previous shows have inspired audiences to think about what dance could be and who it’s for.
“What is really exciting to see is some of the changes that will be made to the venue. Audiences will step through the doors and experience a PARTI night out – the venue will feel different to anything they may have seen here before.
PARTI will be at the Welfare, Ystradgynlais, on November 12 and Theatr y Glowyr in Ammanford on November 19, both at 2pm and 7pm. Find out more at www.ndcwales.co.uk/parti
