Western Mail - Weekend

REVIEW: Our stay at the Old

-

If you really want to treat yourself to a weekend or a night with a dinner at The Walnut Tree, then booking one of their Caradog Cottages is the way to go.

A mere minute from the restaurant itself, we stayed at the old Post office, which gave us views over lush green hills and it’s everything you would want from a cosy cottage stay in a recentlyrenovated former post office.

With two king-size en-suite bedrooms, it felt very luxurious while being homely and comfortable. The beds were huge and an appropriate balance of soft and firm and the bathrooms were as you’d like, with a huge bath and a separate shower.

It was lovely waking up to a countryside view from the bedrooms and, while the cottages are found next to the main road, which I’d say is fast rather than busy, they are also set back behind substantial topiary and you don’t hear anything at night.

My favourite thing about the cottages, though, was the kitchen. Not only was it well-equipped (bring a teatowel, though!) with all you need to make breakfast or a light lunch, it was also well-stocked with goodies. We had smoked salmon, ham, Greek yoghurt, Angel Bakery bread, butter, freshly-squeezed orange juice, jams, honey, homemade granola, eggs, milk, coffee and tea – we couldn’t get through half of it – but don’t worry, we took the perishables with us not to waste anything.

There was a little breakfast nook, too, which was cosy and it meant you could eat your breakfast looking outside into the garden. It was too cold to eat outside or we would have!

Adding to the relaxation checklist the old Post office already has, checkout was 11am, so no early-morning rush! A delightful, cosy, charming place to stay, perfect for walkers, foodies or if you just want a romantic night away.
