To the Manor Born: Britain’s Best Loved Comedy Tonight, C5, 9.20pm
It only ran for three series between 1979 and 1981 (with a one-off special in 2007), but To the Manor Born was one of the most popular sitcoms of all-time – 23.95 million tuned into see the season one finale, making it the most watched non-live TV broadcast of the 1970s. But why did Britain fall for the romance between upper crust Audrey fforbes-hamilton, (Penelope Keith), and the new owner of her stately pile, grocer Richard De Vere (Peter Bowles)? Detectives discovered that Ansreen had been in a relationship with one of the men, and when she tried to end it, he threatened to send incriminating images to her husband. The fly-on-the-wall documentary series returns for a six-part, 12th series, this time moving across the country to follow the work of staff at the North West Ambulance Service. It certainly starts in dramatic fashion – reports of an unexploded bomb come
through, causing chaos. Meanwhile, ambulances are queuing for two hours outside Oldham General Infirmary; hopefully that won’t impact on the treatment a 92-year-old woman needs after being blown over by strong winds outside a bus station.

This stage sees the players ranked ninth to 24th compete for places in the second round when they will face one of the top eight seeds. Chris Dobey defeated Joe Cullen 6-4 at this stage last year and went on to win the title. ‘Hollywood’ is seeded 15th this time around and takes on Andrew Gilding for the chance to play Michael van Gerwen in the second round.
