Joe & Katherine’s Bargain Holidays

Thursday, Channel 4, 10pm

Fancy going on holiday with Joe Wilkinson and Katherine Ryan? Well, you’re in luck, because a new series is o ering you a chance to do so.

The comedians are friends, although they have very di erent approaches to taking a break.

“If pushed on it, I’d have to say my three favourite words are: ‘bargain’, ‘holiday’ and ‘voucher’ (and ‘large vacuum-packed portable food bags...’),” claims Joe. “This series gets under the skin of all three. We’re going to uncover the biggest bargain holidays in the world and we’re going to have some fun doing it! And some tears, I well up at the drop of a hat.”

“Three of my favourite words are: ‘cocktails’, ‘Maldives’ and ‘helicopter’,” adds Katherine. “This series is really going to test my friendship with Joe.”

Nevertheless, the Canadian stand-up star, who has been based in the UK since 2008, is willing to downgrade in the name of entertainment; she’s also keen to help viewers struggling for inspiration nd places to visit and things to do without busting their budget.

The six-part series begins with a trip to Norfolk. Although they’re not a couple, the emphasis is on the “romantic” here, with tongues rmly in cheeks while posing for Instagram-perfect photos in the county’s pretty lavender elds.

They also stay in an enchanting church, sample the “delights” of an alternative spa experience and – in arguably the show’s highlight – serenade each other with poetry.

Look out too for an encounter with owls, couples’ therapy with a di erence and a picturesque boat trip on the Norfolk Broads.

Glitter: The Popstar Paedophile

Tuesday, ITV1, 9pm

He was the amboyant glam rock star who secured a string of hits and a place in pop music history.

At the height of his career, Gary Glitter racked up 12 consecutive Top 10 UK singles and performed in front of sell-out crowds in his trademark sparkling silver jumpsuits.

But the singer, real name Paul Francis Gadd, had – and still has – a very dark side, one of paedophilia and child sexual assault.

Using historical victim testimony, archive footage and interviews with those who met the singer on the showbiz circuit, as well as lawyers involved in both the prosecution and defence of Glitter during various trials, this one-o documentary explores his secret double life over the years.

Beyond Paradise Friday, BBC1, 8pm

The second series is set to come to a lavish conclusion as Humphrey (Kris Marshall) and Martha’s (Sally Bretton) wedding day nally arrives. Admittedly, the happy couple would have preferred something a bit more low-key, but Anne (Barbara Flynn) has taken over the organising, and she’s going all out to make it a grand a air. Sadly, crime doesn’t stop for romance, and the team at Shipton Abbott have to clear up the theft of a valuable museum piece and catch a nefarious pair of cyber criminals before they can join in the celebrations.

Will everyone, including the bride and groom, make it to the ceremony on time, or does fate have other plans?

Murder, They Hope Thursday, BBC2, 9pm

Johnny Vegas and Sian Gibson are back as married sleuths Terry and Gemma as the gentle comedy, which started its life on digital channel GOLD, returns to our screens.

Rather than being a one-o , the run consists of three episodes that begin when the tour operatorsturned-private detectives take charge of a valuable collectible. However, somebody else has their eye on it – the mysterious Bunnyman wants the item and will stop at nothing to get his murderous paws on it.

Can Gemma and Terry set a trap to bring the villain down? As there are two more cases for them to solve in the rest of the series, we’re guessing the answer is yes. Adrian Scarborough, Nitin Ganatra and Shobna Gulati are also among the cast.
