Star cast in a Christmas meeting with the Doctor

A new trailer for the Doctor Who Christmas special has been released with comedians Greg Davies and Matt Lucas and actress Alex Kingston joining Peter Capaldi.

Davies plays King Hydroflax, while Lucas’ character is named Nardole, and Kingston returns as River Song. Last month, Steven Moffat described the Christmas episode of the show, which is called The Husbands of River Song, as a “great romp”, but admitted that there is not a lot of Christmas in it.

It’s Christmas Day on a remote human colony and the Doctor is hiding from carols and comedy antlers.

But when the Time Lord’s help is requested from Nardole he finds himself recruited into River Song’s squad and hurled into a fast and frantic chase across the galaxy!

King Hydroflax is furious and his giant robot bodyguard is out-of-control and coming for them all! Will Nardole survive? And when will River work out who the Doctor is? All will be revealed on a starliner full of galactic super-villains and at a destination the Doctor has been avoiding for a long time…

The Doctor Who Christmas Special will air on BBC1 on Christmas Day from 5.15pm until 6.15pm.
