A weekend to remember as regions all taste victory

-

WALES’ regions completed a clean sweep as all four sides claimed victories over the weekend.

Wins for the Ospreys and Newport Gwent Dragons on Sunday gave Welsh rugby a timely boost after both Cardiff Blues and Scarlets had also come out on the right side of their results.

The Ospreys returned home from Italy with a bonus point success as flanker Justin Tipuric excelled in a 22-39 defeat of lowly Zebre.

The result saw Steve Tandy’s side move up to eighth in the Pro12 table.

Handed the captaincy with Alun Wyn Jones rested, Tipuric produced a man of the match display and scored a try in either half.

After the Ospreys came out on top, it was left to the Dragons to complete things in their clash with Irish raiders Munster.

And they did just that at Rodney Parade, Lyn Jones’ side making Munster pay for their errors as they recorded an impressive 22-6 victory.

In a tight encounter, a late try from lock Rynard Landman proved the crucial moment after the boots of Dorian Jones and Rory Scannell had cancelled the two teams out.

The clean sweep of four Welsh victories sees the Scarlets lead the table following their victory over Treviso with the Ospreys upwardly mobile and the Dragons and Blues in ninth and tenth respectively.

The Blues were 20-16 winners over Connacht on Friday with all four sides now looking to take the momentum from their results into their next round of European fixtures this weekend.
