IT was supposed to be a relaxing evening cheering on their sons as they played in a junior cricket match.
But two medics ended up putting their life-saving skills to the test when a sportsman collapsed nearby.
Barrie Davies, 44, had been taking part in the village’s football club’s first pre-season training session being held alongside the cricket pitch when he fell to the ground and stopped breathing.
His terrified team-mates raised the alarm and consultant radiologist Suresh Dalavaye and nurse Michelle Davies, along with Barry Davies, an off-duty policeman who was umpiring the cricket match, came to the rescue.
Suresh and Michelle immediately carried out CPR, Barry did mouthto-mouth resuscitation, while another parent, who is a physiotherapist, maintained Barrie’s airway.
They continued until a first responder, paramedics and the Wales Air Ambulance arrived.
Suresh said: “When I went over I saw the man wasn’t breathing and so we started to resuscitate him. It took over 15 minutes in the end. I was just happy I was there to be able to help him.”
Michelle, a chronic conditions manager who works in the north hub in Swansea, added: “Suresh and I took it in turns to do CPR and it was good to see how everyone worked together and knew exactly what to do in an emergency. It ran like clockwork.
