Only Men Aloud at St David’s Hall in Cardiff

-

CLASSICAL BRIT award winners Only Men Aloud are returning to St David’s Hall in Cardiff for their annual homecoming Christmas concert this weekend.

Their gig is always one of the most anticipated in the festive calendar, and the vocal ensemble will perform a medley of Christmas carols and rock hits.

The show follows the release of Only Men Aloud’s latest album, On The Road.

“OMA is as busy as ever at the moment, but we always look forward to coming back to our Cardiff roots to play a festive show in the lovely St David’s Hall,” said Only Men Aloud founder and music director Tim Rhys Evans.

“We’ll bring another sparkling show along with some added surprises.”

Since winning the BBC’s Last Choir Standing in 2008, Only Men Aloud have embarked on some incredible experiences from scooping a Classical Brit Album of the Year Award for Band of Brothers in 2010 to performing at the 2012 Olympics Games Opening Ceremony.

For their St David’s Hall show you can expect their usual trademark wit and musical panache as they effortlessly master everything including traditional Welsh music and opera, plus covers of classic artists such as Tom Jones and Coldplay.

And there will no doubt be some numbers from On The Road, which includes an acoustic version of Kylie Minogue’s chart-topper I Should Be So Lucky.

Featuring the eight-part vocal group and piano, it has already had the seal of approval from the man who co-wrote the global smash hit – Pete Waterman.

Other big hits covered by OMA on the album are U2’s anthemic I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, The Beatles’ Ticket To Ride and Happy Together by American band The Turtles.

Tim was keen to put his favourite pop songs from the 1950s to the present day on one album.

Only Men Aloud will be at St David’s Hall in Cardiff on Saturday, December 12 . For tickets, priced £26, call the box office on 029 2087 8444 or visit www. stdavidshallcardiff.co.uk
