New faces bringing new ideas to Ffilm Cymru
THE organisation tasked with supporting the development of a creative, innovative and inclusive film culture, Ffilm Cymru Wales, has appointed Suzie Norton and Christina Macaulay to its board.
With more than 18 years’ experience in film and television, as well as expertise in politics, journalism, education and technology, Ms Norton is keen to support the development of new partnerships and business models.
As the former CEO of Screen West Midlands, Norton forged pioneering cross-sector business programmes, giving her a comprehensive appreciation of Ffilm Cymru Wales’ Magnifier approach to building networks, audiences and revenue streams.
As the commissioning executive producer at BBC Wales and Channel 4’s former deputy commissioning editor, nations and regions, Christina Macaulay has an extensive understanding of the indie sector, the talent base and opportunities to broaden production, distribution and exhibition alliances.
She also shares Norton’s commitment to developing opportunities for young people from diverse and under-represented backgrounds.
Ms Macaulay has just completed eight years as trustee of the National Museums of Wales and is on the Board of It’s My Shout; Norton is an ambassador for UK charity, Uprising, promoting leadership opportunities for young people.
Ffilm Cymru Wales Chair Michael Gubbins said “I am really excited about what these two appointments will bring to the board.
“They will both bring new ideas and considerable experience to what is already a forward-thinking and dynamic group.”
Nick Capaldi, chief executive of the Arts Council of Wales who delegate film sector responsibilities to Ffilm Cymru Wales added: “We rely on Ffilm Cymru Wales to lead from the front in its ability to be agile and to adapt to an ever-changing industry.
“Its support, investment and advice helps sustain a wide range of independent film and related activity, an important contributor to the creative industries in Wales.
“I feel sure that the two new board appointments will bring considerable expertise and knowledge to this role.”
