Director to promote hotel to new markets
ONE of Cardiff’s leading hotels has further strengthened its senior sales team with a key new appointment.
Julia Sim has recently been appointed director of sales at the four-star Cardiff Marriott, with responsibility to develop and implement the venue’s sales strategy and oversee the promotion of the hotel to targeted markets.
Having graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in marketing and hospitality Ms Sim began her career in recruitment before acquiring her first sales role at the Royal Highland Showground in Edinburgh.
Her Marriott career started with her appointment as sales Manager for Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club on the outskirts of Edinburgh, from where two and a half years later, she moved on to the position of Director of Sales at St Pierre Marriott Hotel and Country Club in Chepstow, covering a period of maternity.
In her new Cardiff role, she will responsible for building the hotel’s profile as the ideal venue for business, as well as social events. She will also focus on building relationships with local businesses and ensuring that the Cardiff Marriott Hotel remains an important part of the city’s ongoing development.
Ms Sim said: “Having worked in country clubs previously, I was looking for a new challenge and keen to work in a fast-paced, city environment.
“When my term was ending at St Pierre, and an opening at Cardiff Marriott Hotel came up, it was perfect timing as this is exactly what I was looking for.
“I am looking forward to bringing new companies to the Marriott Hotel and showing them real Welsh hospitality. There are some great events coming up in the city in the next year and it’s a brilliant time for me to have arrived to Cardiff. There are plenty of opportunities to network and meet new people, and I am very much looking forward to working in the city.”
