Prince urges support for Invictus Games contestants

-

PRINCE Harry has revealed he favours dogs over cats, swings over slides and Strictly Come Dancing over the Great British Bake Off, as he spoke about his hopes for the upcoming Invictus Games.

Harry will travel to the US next week to support the UK team in the Paralympics-style competition for injured, sick or wounded servicemen and women and veterans, being staged in Orlando, Florida.

He has been the driving force behind the Games, first staged in 2014 to great acclaim, and will be cheering on competitors in the sporting spectacle he said would allow them to serve their country again and “go out and kick the arse out of life”.

Interviewed with Invictus captain David Wiseman for Chris Evans’s BBC Radio Two breakfast show, Harry said: “I started the Games to create a platform so these individuals like Wisey, next to me, can use the platform they way they want to use it. Whether that’s getting into employment, out of the house.”

The interview was billed by Evans as “ginge on ginge” and Harry and Mr Wiseman joined in the show’s “breaking news” feature, reading out everyday events affecting listeners.

Harry told the audience: “Left nostril has finally unblocked after six weeks – Rachel in South Wales, thank you for that.”

Evans fired off a series of questions asking Harry to choose between two options, and he chose red wine over white and crisps over peanuts.

When asked to pick between cars or bikes, he went for the twowheeled option and confessed that he still rode his motorbike “occasionally, but I take a little bit more care”, and chose Ant over Dec when quizzed about the Geordie duo.

Evans asked Harry to choose between BBC shows Strictly Come Dancing and the Great British Bake Off and he replied: “Strictly - I’m going to get judged for that.”

He called on the public to support the UK competitors at the Invictus Games: “But you know what it’s all about – support, showing the guys we all care and giving them the respect they deserve.”
