Plea as sick man wants to come home to die

-

A SWANSEA man who collapsed on a Spanish holiday six months ago has pleaded to be taken home to die.

Tony Harries, 57, is trapped in a Barcelona hospital because he is too ill to fly home.

His family are trying to raise £5,000 to pay for a private ambulance to bring him the 1,100 miles back home. His sister, Diane, said: “Tony is desperate to come home. He knows he is dying. We are hoping we can get him back in time.”

Tony was taken ill last October, and has stayed in hospital ever since.

Doctors have now said that there is nothing more they can do – only give him pain relief.

He is unable to fly due to his condition, but brother Bryan and sister Diane are appealing for help to fund the cost of hiring a private ambulance with a paramedic and nurse on board to bring him home.

Bryan said: “Tony’s wish is to come home to die but we do not have the money we need.”

Tony, of Gorseinon, Swansea, has had asthma since childhood and now also suffers from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Gower MP Byron Davies has been liaising with both the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London and with British Embassy staff in Spain.

Tony’s family has also set up a site on Just Giving called Tony Harries - Bring him Home.
