HOW THE OPPOSITION RESPONDED...

“We will reform student finance so that Welsh domiciled students who work in Wales after graduation will receive £6,000 per year during the first five years after graduating, up to a maximum of £18,000. This will ensure that our best and brightest have the opportunity and incentive to stay or return to Wales after completing their studies.

“Plaid Cymru has outlined clear and fully-costed proposals to address the staff shortage crisis facing the Welsh NHS under Labour by recruiting 1,000 extra doctors and 5,000 extra nurses. Not a single penny will be cut from the health service under a Plaid government. In fact, we will invest an extra £925m in the NHS by 2021. Had Jeremy Corbyn spent more time in Wales during the campaign then perhaps he would have a better understanding of other parties’ policies.”

“We’ll take no lessons from Jeremy Corbyn or his Labour comrades on what matters to the people of Wales.

“In his belief that our nuclear defences should be scrapped and that the UK should leave Nato, Jeremy Corbyn presents a real threat to our national security; while his comrade Carwyn Jones poses a serious threat to our public services and financial security.

“After 17 years of mismanagement, Jeremy Corbyn’s Labour party can look back on a dismal record of failing schools, an NHS verging on crisis, and a public sector deficit running into the billions.

“With the same competent leadership, focus and discipline the Conservatives are delivering for the UK as a whole, the Welsh Conservatives have set out a clear and detailed plan to address the issues that really matter to the people of Wales.

“A Welsh Conservative government will secure real change for Wales by unleashing its enormous economic potential so that it can enjoy better schools and better hospitals – it’s no less than the people of Wales deserve.”
