I want to be Dragons coach, not sip coffee with agents, says Kingsley

CARETAKER boss Kingsley Jones has opened up on how much he would love to do the Dragons job on a permanent basis.

The former Wales flanker has been at the helm for the past three games due to the absence and then departure of director of rugby Lyn Jones.

He will be in charge again for Saturday’s Judgement Day clash with the Scarlets at the Principali­ty Stadium and then the final game of the season away to Zebre.

And he admits he would relish the opportunit­y to guide his young Dragons team into next season if given the chance.

“The desire and hunger to do the job is there as great as ever,” he said. “I love going to work for the week coaching.

“What excites me about the job is the young lads and it would be a pity not to see it through with these boys.

“They have got good motivation and if can keep them together, they will be our marquee signings, they are going to come through.

“Look at the back line I can pick – the likes of Angus O’Brien, Jack Dixon, Tyler Morgan, Hallam Amos, Ashton Hewitt. All those are 21 and from Gwent.”

Jones – who was appointed head coach on a three year deal in the summer of 2014 – is now waiting to see in which direction the Dragons want to go following the exit of Lyn Jones.

“I will be honest, I’m not 100 per cent sure, in my heart of hearts, if I want to do the director of rugby role,” he said.

“What is that role? Drinking coffee with agents 30 per cent of the time. I’ve been there and done that. There are lots of distractio­ns.

“I would be lying if I said I didn’t fancy a crack at leading the region, but how that would be structured would have to be discussed.

“I don’t know what they are looking for. That is what I have got to find out.

“Hopefully they are openminded about having a chat and me saying this is what I’d like to do and this is how I think it could work.

“But they might tell me they see the role in a different way and I would have to consider that.
