Fishermen missing after boat hits rocks offshore

-

TWO fishermen were missing last night after a fishing vessel sank off the coast of Pembrokeshire.

The Coastguard and RNLI lifeboats were called out after getting a 999 call from a member of the public at 2.30pm.

It is believed the vessel got into difficulty and struck rocks at St David’s Head about a mile offshore.

Some debris was found on the surface of the water.

Jim Phillips, press officer for the RNLI St David’s, said: “We believe the vessel struck rocks approximately a mile off of Abereiddi Beach.

“A member of the public spotted this and contacted the Coastguard.

“There is information that two persons were seen in the sea.”

Five lifeboats were out searching until late last night as well as a Coastguard rescue helicopter and cliff teams.

The search was called off late last night and was due to resume at first light today.

The two men were not fishing at the time the vessel sank and as of last night there had been no sign of them.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they had informed the men’s families.
