Man suffering dizzy spells died after fall

-

A MAN who was urged by his wife to go to the doctor after suffering a bout of dizzy spells died after falling and hitting his head on a path near their home, an inquest has heard.

Former police officer Simon Earnest Smythe Rogers, of Broadhaven near Haverfordwest, was powerwashing his drive on February 4 when he fell about 8ft onto a concrete path below.

An inquest at Milford Haven Town Hall heard the 55-year-old had been complaining of feeling unwell in the weeks leading up to the accident.

Described by his wife as a big drinker and a functioning alcoholic, Mr Rogers suffered with high blood pressure for the past few years and had been diagnosed with coeliac disease five months before.

On the day he died, his wife had urged him to bring forward a doctor’s appointment he had made that morning after complaining of feeling unwell.

“She said she would take him to the doctors when she finished work that day but that was the last time she spoke to him,” said coroner’s officer Jeremy Davies.

Mr Rogers is thought to have been pressure-washing his property before falling over a wall into the adjoining property some 8ft below.

He died as the result of a fractured skull.

Coroner Mark Layton recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
