Python found dead in lake

-

A THREE-FOOT royal python – a snake which is usually found in sub-Saharan Africa – has been found dead in a lake in Rhondda.

The snake was discovered in a lake on a hillside at the end of Troedyrhiw Terrace in Treorchy on Sunday.

It was also reported that a further two dead snakes were spotted in the lake but RSPCA inspectors were unable to find them.

Royal pythons are native to central, eastern and western Africa. Their natural habitats are grassy savannas or forest floors, although they are good climbers and often lie entwined on branches up trees.

They can grow up to five feet in length and live for anything from 20 to 30 years.
