Bereft Sir Tom may yet sing again after heartfelt message to his fans

-

SIR Tom Jones has broken his silence over the death of his wife – and hinted he will return to singing by telling fans: “See you soon.”

Veteran singer Sir Tom, 75, thanked fans for their “sympathy and support” following the death of his wife, Linda, 18 days ago. A message of thanks was posted to Sir Tom’s official Twitter page on Wednesday night, telling fans their words had lifted the family’s spirits.

Sir Tom was married to Lady Melinda Rose Woodward – known as Linda – for 59 years and was at her bedside when she died from cancer on April 10. He has previously said he might never be able to sing again if Linda died.

The Delilah singer had not spoken publicly since, until Wednesday evening, when a message was posted on his official Twitter account.

He wrote: “A heartfelt Thank You to all who sent notes of their sympathy and support to me and my family over the last couple of weeks. So many beautiful and meaningful things were said and reading these genuine and lovely messages has lifted us all. See you soon.”

Linda Woodward died at the CedarsSinai Hospital, in Los Angeles.

In a statement released at the time the family announced that Linda had passed away after a “short but fierce” battle with cancer.

The couple had been together for 59 years after marrying when they were both just 16.

In an interview before her death Sir Tom spoke adoringly of his wife.

He said: “She’s the most important thing in my life, an unbelievable woman.”
