Etc serves food inspired by Roald Dahl and Alice in Wonderland!

Penarth’s new destinatio­n restaurant Etc brings more than a little touch of Paris to the seaside town

THERE’S a new fine-dining restaurant in Penarth that oozes style and sophistica­tion and features gorgeous, innovative food inspired by fantastica­l tales by the likes of Roald Dahl.

Etc in has just opened in the seaside town and as well as having a decadent Parisian-style interior, the food really is a work of art. Move over Heston Blumenthal.

The menu includes the Mad Hatter’s Garden – chicken, Spam in nutmeginfu­sed bechasse, topped with lavender cornflake soil and root fresh vegetables and a lavender C02 essence – inspired by Alice in Wonderland; and the Willy Wonka inspired by Roald Dahl – Prawn chocolate cocktail, lemon sea foam, CO2 cinnamon essence.

As well as signature smoke-infused cocktails, there is wine, bottled beers, ciders and soft drinks as well as hot drinks.

Inside, the sumptuous decor is predominan­tly black and gold, with walls of gilt mirrors, reminiscen­t of a Parisian fine-dining restaurant. While the interior is decadent, extravagan­t and opulent the atmosphere in the 40-seater restaurant is relaxed.

Although there’s nothing stopping you from just popping in for a drink, cocktail or spur-of-the-moment meal, it’s a destinatio­n restaurant where you will enjoy spending time over some truly innovative dishes.

Local businessma­n and interior designer Alex Mules is the man behind the restaurant and cocktail bar and he is collaborat­ing with multi awardwinni­ng consultant chef Stephen Gomes, the man behind Moksh in Cardiff Bay.

Etc, on Stanwell Road, Penarth, is open Tuesday to Sunday, 5pm to midnight.

Last food orders are 10.30pm, and last orders from the tasting menu is 9.30pm. The bar is open from 5pm.
