Ticket policy amended as FAW scores an own goal

THE Football Association of Wales has amended a controversial tournament ticket policy that caused uproar among fans.

In a bid to reward loyal fans amid what is expected to be a heightened demand for tickets following Wales’ historic Euro 2016 campaign, the FAW has introduced a new staggered sales approach.

The tournament ticket package will allow fans to see all five of Wales’ home 2018 World Cup qualifiers – against Moldova, Georgia, Serbia, Austria and Ireland – at a 20% discounted rate when compared to buying tickets on a matchto-match basis. However, fans were angered by the criteria that meant they couldn’t get their hands on tournament tickets until the fourth round of sales if they hadn’t renewed their membership with the Wales Supporters Club before June 10, irrespective of how long they have been members.

That meant many diehard fans who have followed the team for many years could have missed out.

But an update on the FAW ticketing site states that following an internal review of the process, criteria for stage two of sales – which takes place between July 27 and August 2 – have been revised, and state that there is no requirement for fans to have renewed their membership before the start of the Wales Euro 2016 campaign.

That said, fans must still be 2018 World Cup Gold or Junior Members (regardless of when membership was renewed) and have been a Euro 2016 Gold or Junior Membership OR have a Euro 2016 Tournament Ticket assigned to their account.
