Delivering a sustainable Wales at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David

-

OVER the past two weeks the University of Wales Trinity Saint David has celebrated the success of its students across the region at 14 graduation ceremonies held in Carmarthen, Lampeter and Swansea. The ceremonies were an opportunity for the university community, families, friends and supporters to come together to celebrate the achievement of a new cohort of graduates, many of whom have already secured employment within the region.

Professor Medwin Hughes, DL, Vice-Chancellor said: “You are now graduates of the University of Wales Trinity Saint David and as such you carry the name Wales with you. You are in fact ambassadors for the Wales brand – be proud of this fine ‘learning country’ and seek to make a difference – whether that be linked to economic, social or cultural engagement. It is a valued brand that could take you across the world, but the skills and knowledge that you have gained can also make a real difference here in Wales. You are the next generation of change agents; the next generation of leaders within your chosen profession; and the next generation who will make a difference to secure the wellbeing of future generations.

“This university’s mission is transforming education; transforming lives. We are crafting a new narrative for the delivery of higher education in Wales. UWTSD is redefining the university experience for our students, staff and partners. Through our collaboration with the public and private sectors, we are developing a new way of working; our provision is co-authored with the professions to ensure that our graduates are fully equipped to meet employers’ current and future needs. Such major investment as the Swansea Waterfront Innovation Quarter and Canolfan S4C Yr Egin in Carmarthen are part of the transformation agenda that aims to assist the university in fulfilling its core mission of improving access to higher education and skills development that is relevant to local communities and employers, enhances graduate employability, and enables the UWTSD to reach its potential of contributing to the economic regeneration of the Swansea Bay City Region and Wales.

“The Swansea Waterfront Innovation Quarter, for example, will not simply be a new campus – it will be a vibrant integrated neighbourhood where we will work with partners and within professional networks, such as the Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) and the NHS Informatics Service (NWIS), to exploit knowledge and expertise to our mutual benefit. It will be a destination of choice where we will create new enterprise hubs and high-skill accelerator schemes to grow new business linked to our portfolio, and where we will develop the skills of current businesses and attract new investment into the region.
