Warburton Grogg goes missing

-

THERE are fears a clay figurine of Wales rugby captain Sam Warburton could have been stolen – from his local pub in Cardiff.

The Deri Inn on Heol-Y-Deri, Rhiwbina, reported the theft of a framed Sam Warburton Grogg when it was noticed missing on Saturday. Staff there are now appealing for help to the missing rugby memorabilia.

The Grogg sat in the Sam Warburton Suite – the function room which was opened by the Blues and Wales flanker himself in March 2014.

Dan Draper, 24, is a duty manager at the pub.

He said: “Obviously we were upset by it. It is a really nice room and there is lots of memorabilia of Sam and the Welsh team in there.”

The pub is regularly frequented and supported by members of the Warburton family.

Sam Warburton’s father has been informed that the Grogg is missing.

“The family are big supporters of the pub – I have seen them in here twice this week,” added Mr Draper, who has worked at the pub for more than five years.

The Grogg was first spotted as missing on Saturday, but it could have gone up to two days before.

Jayne Cowan, a Rhiwbina councillor, said: “The Deri Inn work closely with the community and actively support charities and good causes.

“I hope the memorabilia will be returned soon as people enjoying seeing the references to Sam at the local pub.”

South Wales Police approached for a comment. were
