Swans fans’ Trust make clear Dineen opposition

SWANSEA City Supporters’ Trust have made clear their opposition to Leigh Dineen returning to the club’s board of directors, writes Andrew Gwilym.

Dineen stepped down as a director in the summer in the wake of the sale of a majority shareholding to American businessmen Jason Levien and Steve Kaplan, after which he retained a one per cent stake.

However, he was reappointed to the board last month.

The move came as a complete surprise to the Trust, who had already found themselves in the dark for much of the sale process, and over the decision to appoint Bob Bradley as manager.

Once the Trust contacted Levien, Dineen was removed and the filing of paperwork with Companies House was described as an administrative error.

However, the issue is set to be raised when the board of directors meet early next week.

“This came to light a couple of weeks ago, it just appeared and we did not know anything about it,” said Trust chairman Phil Sumbler.

“We took it up with Jason Levien, he told us it should not have happened and it was quickly reversed.

“I don’t think Leigh needs to be back on the board.”

Meanwhile the Swans were handed a tie away at fellow Premier League strugglers Hull City in last night’s FA Cup third round draw.

Cardiff City, meanwhile, will entertain Fulham but the Welsh tie of the round sees Newport County at Liverpool if they can see off Plymouth Argyle in a second round replay.
