Death of OAP not suspicious – police

-

POLICE investigating the death of a pensioner in the early hours of New Year’s Day have said they are satisfied the man’s death is not suspicious.

North Wales Police were called at 3.04am on Sunday, January 1, by the Welsh Ambulance Service to a property in Llanberis, where a 70-year-old man had collapsed outside his home.

The man, named by police as Dafydd Hughes, died despite the efforts of two ambulance crews who attended.

A police statement read: “Due to an unexplained injury to the deceased, who has been named as Dafydd Hughes, his death was initially treated as suspicious by North Wales Police and a 20-yearold local man was arrested shortly after the initial call to the ambulance service.”

Detective Chief Inspector Brian Kearney said: “This man has fully co-operated with the police throughout our investigation. Following extensive enquiries by a team of detectives along with a post mortem completed by a Home Office Pathologist on Sunday, January 1, North Wales Police are now satisfied that the death of Dafydd Hughes is not suspicious.”

The 20-year-old man has since been released unconditionally and is no longer under investigation.

The coroner for North West Wales, Dewi Pritchard Jones, is satisfied that the death is due to natural causes.
