Fernandez, Barrow linked with January moves from Liberty
SWANSEA City defender Federico Fernandez is being linked with a £7m move to West Brom.
It was reported the Baggies are keen on the Argentina international who has fallen out of favour at the Liberty Stadium this season.
It’s claimed Tony Pulis is prepared to lodge a £7m bid for the centre-back who joined the Swans for £8m from Napoli in 2014.
He was a major hit during his first season in South Wales, but has struggled to hit those heights in recent times.
The Swans are known to be targeting at least one new defender during the January transfer window after a series of shambolic performances that have seen them drop to the bottom of the Premier League, conceding 44 goals along the way.
It remains to be seen what incoming boss Paul Clement will make of the squad and who he will be keen to keep.
Fernandez has not featured since the incredible 5-4 win over Crystal Palace in November because of a broken toe, but he was among the substitutes for Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth and may well start in the return game against Palace today with Jordi Amat ruled out through suspension.
Fernandez has 18 months remaining on his Swansea contract.
Another player being linked with a January exit is exciting wing Modou Barrow.
Today’s opponents Crystal Palace are thought to be keen on Barrow, with Eagles boss Sam Allardyce considering a move during the window.
Barrow is believed to have a £5m relegation release clause in his contract, with the Swans now considering offers this month.
He has made 19 appearances for Swansea so far this season and has generally been one of few bright spots in an otherwise bleak campaign to date.
He started the 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on the bench, but was introduced in the first half as Swansea looked to turn the tide against the Cherries.
Barrow, who signed a new threeyear deal in July, has been the focus of attention over the past few months, with Newcastle United, Queens Park Rangers, Southampton and Leicester City all tracking the winger’s movements.
The 24-year-old signed for the club in a reported £1.5 million deal in 2014 from Swedish side Ostersunds FK.
