THERE are 100 days to go until the Women’s Champions League final kicks off in Cardiff.

It is the first time the event, the biggest in the European women’s calendar, will have been held in Wales.

The arrival of the women’s final kickstarts what will be a huge few days for Cardiff.

While tens of thousands of fans will arrive here for the men’s final, their presence will be dwarfed by a global TV audience of 380m people.

The women’s final has a global reach of around five million viewers.

With 100 days to go, tickets go on sale today for the women’s event.

The final, on June 1, is being held at the Cardiff City Stadium and kickoff will be at 7.45pm.

Tickets will cost £6 for adults and £2 for concessions and children. That makes it a fraction of the cost of the men’s final – where the minimum ticket price will be around the 70 Euro mark.

Tickets to the men’s final go on sale on March 17.

The 2016 women’s final, held in Italy, had an attendance of just over 15,000.

The quarter-finals take place over March 22 and 23 and March 29 and 30 with the semi-finals taking place over April 22 and 23 and April 29 and 30.

Teams in the running are Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, Manchester City, Sweden’s Rosengård, Spanish team Barcelona, German teams Bayern München and Wolfsburg, French sides Lyon and Paris Saint-Germain.

Wales coach Jayne Ludlow is an ambassador for the final.

She hopes that having the event in Cardiff will see participation in women’s football rise.

The Football Association of Wales, who are Uefa’s local organising committee for the two finals, say they hope that the low ticket prices will encourage people to attend.

They say it’s a way for anyone who wants to take part in the finals to attend – whatever their budget.

Thursday is then the 100-day milestone for the men’s event.

During the build up to the finals, there will be a trophy tour which will end in Cardiff just before the games.

There will be other footballing events held in the city during the celebrations, including the culmination of the Uefa Young Champions Tournament.

There will be an Ultimate Champions match, which will see Uefa Champions League legends go head to head in a five-a-side match.

Clarence Seedorf, Deco and Edwin van der Sar have all previously been involved.

There is also a pitch where fans can play on in the build-up to the finals.
