Law’s men up for the challenge as they head north to take on RGC

-

BEDWAS head coach Steve Law is “looking forward to the challenge” that RGC 1404 will offer in Tier One of the Principality Premiership when the two teams clash at Parc Eiras (1pm).

Both teams head into the game off the back of impressive cup victories with RGC narrowly beating Llandovery 41-36 to make the National Cup semi-finals and Bedwas hammering Bridgend 55-14 to set-up a Foster’s Cup final with Carmarthen Quins, and Law admitted it was the perfect preparation.

“We had two tough games against Merthyr and we were second best in the last game so it was good to bounce back and put in a performance of such high quality,” said Law.

“We’re very happy at the moment. I think RGC 1404 will offer a different challenge. We will have to be technically astute in what we are trying to achieve but we are looking for some honesty and hard work because RGC work you very hard and they play a brand of rugby that suits them.

“It was definitely one of the best 40 minutes we have had (against Bridgend), it compared to the performance of Merthyr away (earlier in the season). But only for 40 minutes were we that good against Bridgend, we were good against Merthyr for, probably, 70 minutes.

“It’s a huge game because there are only four games left and it will be great to pick up a result away at RGC, not many teams will do that - they have only lost one game at home all season.

“It’s a big challenge but we’re looking forward to it. We respect RGC for what they have achieved but we don’t fear them.”

Meanwhile, RGC 1404 team manager Jim Coy believes his side can use a run of three home games to bounce back from a difficult start to Tier One.

“We’re targeting the home games that we’ve got coming up as games that we want to get maximum points from,” he said.

“The crowd is very big and passionate and I think that helps us. Our wide pitch suits our style of play and hopefully, with the crowd behind us, we’ll be at our very best.

“We’re not taking anything for granted but we do see [the next three league games being at home] as something that plays to our strengths. We can’t be complacent but we do intend to utilise that advantage.”

Elsewhere in Tier One, Merthyr will hope to bounce back from their Foster’s Cup exit against Carmarthen Quins as they host Llandovery (noon).

Meanwhile in Tier Two, Newport and Neath clash as they both try to end the other’s 100 per cent winning run and close the gap on leaders Cross Keys (noon).

While Cardiff and Llanelli with both be aiming to secure their first victory since the Premiership split (noon).
