A CARDIFF-BASED hairdresser, encouraging businesses to register members of staff to compete at WorldSkills UK, says award-winning employees have direct benefits for the business.

Tino, 60, from Abertridwr, said: “WorldSkills is a great way to pass invaluable skills onto the next generation.

“As a business, we’ve seen a rise in customers asking for Eleni after seeing her in the newspapers doing really well, the publicity is worth its weight in gold.”

Minister for Skills and Science, Julie James, said: “Last year, Wales topped the leader board at the Skills Show in Birmingham, bringing home 45 medals, and without encouragement from family and businesses Wales wouldn’t have such a significant number of highly-skilled competitors and employees.”
