Fish and chip shop brings taste of the seaside to pier

-

A NEW fish and chip shop and bar will open shortly at the Victorian-built Mumbles Pier.

The 119-year-old pier, which is operated by Ameco, is undergoing a new five-year phased programme of redevelopment.

The first phase, backed with a financial package of £1m from HSBC, last year saw the opening of the Little Stone Gallery and a cafe.

And the latest project in the first phase will see a 1,800sq ft fish and chip shop and bar opening at the former Cinderella’s night club.

The restaurant will seat 65 and will also include a takeaway service. It is due to open over the Easter weekend. The bar will open over the next few months. Once fully operational the business will employ between 12 and 15 full and part time staff.

Ameco is discussions with HBSC over further funding of the next phases of development at the pier.

John Bollom, chairman of Amecco said: “The old pub has stood empty since 2010 so it’s great to be able to breathe life back into the building, especially as it is the gateway to the pier and the first thing people.”

The Bollom family has operated the pier since 1936.

Phil Sargeant, HSBC’s area director for South Wales, said: “It is such a wellknown attrction in Swansea so we are delighted to be a part of this next chapter.”
