Ten years of enchantment at Abbey-Cwm-Hir
THE Hall at Abbey-Cwm-Hir is a 52-room, grade II* gothic mansion which sits in 12 acres of grounds near Llandrindod Wells. This April it celebrates 10 years of offering guided tours to the public.
“It’s been a fantastic decade,” said owner Victoria Humpherston. “We have delighted, surprised and astounded thousands of visitors with our combination of outstanding architecture, stunning interiors, fascinating collections and beautiful gardens. The interiors have been created with our friends from the village – visitors love being guided around the house by a family member in a true family atmosphere, and the gardens are now recognised as among the loveliest in Wales.
“We have entertained not only visitors from Wales and the Marches, but also from all over the UK and overseas. Media companies have picked up on something they regard as quite unique, and we have appeared on 20 TV programmes. These have featured either the architecture and interiors, or our collections, some aspects of Abbey-Cwm-Hir social history, or our gardens. Latterly, we have been creating interest amidst feature film companies. Particularly satisfying, are the sheer number of return visitors we have.
“What of the future? Well we hope to continue with the tours as a means of keeping and maintaining the house – an exhausting commitment! So, if you haven’t been but always promised yourself that you would, or you want to see just how much has changed since your last visit, do book up.”
For a tour of The Hall call 01597 851727 or email info@abbey cwmhir.com. Fees for the tour and full access to the gardens are £16, or £14 for groups or return visitors. Gardens entry is £5.
