Medics to check on Biggar and Warburton

-

DAN Biggar will continue to be assessed following the head injury he suffered at the weekend, while Sam Warburton is to undergo a scan on his damaged knee today.

Wales outside-half Biggar returned to the field for the Ospreys against Leinster on Saturday after passing a pitch-side examination following a clash of heads.

But after missing a last-minute penalty which would have won the game for his side, he revealed in a post-match interview he couldn’t remember much of the final 10 minutes and was a bit dazed.

Now the Ospreys have issued a statement to clarify the situation over their star player.

It read: “Having resumed playing, Dan reported no further symptoms and his actions caused no undue concern for the medical team at that time.

“Dan will continue to be monitored as part of the HIA [head injury assessment] protocol in case of any delayed reaction. The medical welfare and well-being of players is the utmost priority of everybody involved at the Ospreys at all times.”

Biggar’s failure to convert a 40 metre injury-time penalty saw the Ospreys go down to a 20-18 defeat at the hands of Guinness Pro12 leaders Leinster.

But head coach Steve Tandy maintains the 56-cap fly-half was the right person to take the kick.

“I’m sure if Dan didn’t really feel like it at the time he’d have given the ball to Sam Davies,” said Tandy.

“He has gone through the HIA, he’s passed all the tests and we wouldn’t be putting someone back on we didn’t feel was right.

“There’s no finger pointing. You can go back to the last final we won and Dan’s kick from the sideline won the match.”

Meanwhile, Lions captaincy favourite Warburton is to undergo a scan after taking a bang to his left knee during Cardiff Blues’ 24-24 draw with Ulster on Friday night.

The flanker was hopeful after the match that the damage wasn’t too serious.
