Bank branch to close as regular customers now down to two

-

A bank is closing after having just two regular customers visit the branch.

Halifax said it will close its Oxford Street, Swansea, branch on July 19.

The Halifax branches in Union Street, Swansea, and Woodfield Street, in Morriston, will remain open.

The bank said the number of people who used to use the Oxford Street branch decreased by 29% last year, with 79% of the total customer base choosing to use other branches.

“We apologise for any inconvenience that this may cause and have informed customers of the closest alternative branch, which is Swansea.”

It is not currently known if any jobs will be lost as a result of the closure.

The spokesman added: “We can’t confirm the situation for individual branches at the moment as colleagues are given time to consider their options. We expect a significant number of colleagues will be offered alternative roles in other local branches.”

Customers who use the branch will have their accounts “realigned” to the Union Street branch. Halifax has said there will be “no other impact to the way they (the customers) manage their
