FOR those who love their Scandi noir and Hinterland, there’ll be a new brooding drama to curl up with when the nights draw in later this year.

The “thrilling and emotional” bilingual eight-part series will be set in Wales and star Eve Myles, who won rave reviews for her performance in ITV drama Broadchurch’s second series.

Called Un Bore Mercher in Welsh and Keeping Faith in English, the project will be filmed back to back in both languages and will premiere on S4C, before being shown on BBC One Wales.

Bafta Cymru winner Ms Myles, 38, will play a wife and mother who tries to uncover the truth behind her husband’s disappearance.

She soon realises that her idyllic home town contains many dark secrets that threaten her way of life and her entire family.

The series will be filmed around the Laugharne area of Carmarthenshire, where the plot is set, and in the Vale of Glamorgan.

A cast of some of Wales’ best-loved talent will include Broadchurch’s Matthew Gravelle, Stella’s Mark Lewis Jones, and Hinterland’s Mali Harries and Aneirin Hughes.

It comes after Hinterland’s success – the dark police detective series set in Aberystwyth and Ceredigion and featuring Richard Harrington as DCI Tom Mathias. It has been shown on BBC One Wales and BBC4, and in Welsh as Y Gwyll on S4C, is now in its third series, and has been broadcast across Europe and the world, via Netflix.

Gwawr Martha Lloyd, S4C drama content commissioner, said of the new drama: “We’re very excited about this new and original series that will be premiering on S4C this autumn.

“With a stellar cast and a completely compelling story, plot and setting, we’re hoping the audience will grow to love the world and the characters of Un Bore Mercher as much as we in S4C have as we worked to develop the series.

“The series intends to take the viewer on a thrilling, emotional and warm journey which will pull at the heart-strings but will also make them smile along the way.”

Co-funded by the Welsh Government’s Media Investment Budget, S4C and BBC Wales, all principal photography of the series will be shot on locations around Wales, and location assistance was provided from Wales Screen, part of the Welsh Government’s creative industries team, helping to maximise the economic benefits for Wales.

Nick Andrews, head of commissioning at BBC Wales, said: “This is fantastic news.

“To have a genuine home-grown drama, produced by world-class talent at the top of their game. I can’t wait to see what the team will do.”

Un Bore Mercher will premiere on S4C this autumn, and Keeping Faith will be shown on BBC One Wales early next year.
