Morrison confident Quay can take point

CONNAH’S Quay manager Andy Morrison is confident his side will secure the one point they need to secure European football with just two matches remaining.

This afternoon, the Deeside club host Bala Town, who have already secured their European entry via the Welsh Cup, but are seeking to retain runners-up spot.

The Lakesiders are three points ahead of their rivals, with an identical goal count, so today’s clash will go a long way towards settling the issue.

Former Manchester City skipper Morrison said: “We’ll go against Bala and get what we need but, if we don’t, we’ll go to Cardiff Met next week and get what we need.

“I don’t need favours from anyone else. Connah’s Quay don’t need any favours. We have been up there all season, rightly, and we’ll get what we need to get over the line.”

If Quay lose both their remaining matches, Bangor City would pip them for third place with two victories, but their task is magnified by the fact that today they host runaway champions The New Saints, who have lost just twice during a sensational campaign.

Interim Bangor manager Gary Taylor-Fletcher is not giving in on pipping Connah’s Quay, saying: “They have two difficult matches left, so you never know.

“We will look to win to keep the pressure on them. There’s no question of resting players if we have to rely on the play-offs.”

Cardiff Met could maintain their hopes of overtaking Carmarthen for fifth spot with a win at Richmond Park, but with just one point from their last eight matches, it appears a slim chance.

Tonight, Aberystwyth will end their supporters’ relegation jitters if they beat second-bottom Rhyl and they will be heartened by last week’s impressive 2-0 win at Llandudno.

However, victory for the Lilywhites would put them in the driving seat going into the last round of matches.

Airbus, who are already relegated, host Newtown, who will be looking to cement an unlikely European play-off slot with a victory.

It looked more like a relegation dogfight for the Robins going into the split, but their recent form has been impressive.

In the remaining match, Llandudno visit Cefn Druids, who secured their safety last week.
