Brighter days predicted following Easter rainfall

IF YOU are trying to wring out the last drops of your Easter break, then you are in luck today. The weather in most of Wales is going to be bright and relatively mild, with only a few showers.

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said: “It is going to be a mild start compared to Sunday that saw cold temperatures.

“It will be dry for most places but there will be sporadic showers around. The areas that do not have rain should see some lovely bright sunshine.

“It will get brighter into the afternoon with the places with most of the sunshine being on the coast.

“Cardigan Bay in the west and Colwyn Bay in the north should get the brightest evenings.

“Temperatures will peak at between 12-13˚C.”

If you are lucky enough to have more time off this week, the weather should hold out for you, although temperatures will not be high.

“High pressure over the next days will mean mean there will be a sharp frost on Tuesday morning with temperatures around zero,” said the Met Office spokeswoman. “This pattern will be maintained throughout the week, with Wednesday and Thursday largely dry and bright through the week, with some sunny spells.”

It is hard for weather forecasters to make solid predictions beyond five days but the outlook for the end of the week and next weekend appears to be cloudy and overcast but with little rain.

The weekend was very much a mixed bag for weather, with Sunday’s heavy rain in places hitting some tourist attractions in the tills.

At the Centre for Alternative Technology in Machynlleth, the Easter weekend has brought heavy showers, but has not stopped the slew of visitors that the double bank holiday has brought.

A spokesperson for the CAT said: “We have had a pretty good Easter with a lot of kids about enjoying themselves at the centre.

“We have had indoor eco-activities for them to do when the weather has been bad on Sunday.

“We had much better weather on Good Friday and Saturday, and of course we still have Easter Monday too.”

On Easter Sunday the heaviest rain was concentrated in north-west Wales around Snowdonia National Park.

If you were looking to get into the garden for an easter egg hunt or any other outdoor activity, the best place in the whole of Wales was Usk in Monmouthshire.

According to the Met Office, on both Saturday and Sunday it recorded the highest temperature in the country, peaking at 13.6˚C.
