Coastguard and police fail to find missing man, 90
POLICE and coastguards have scaled back their search for a 90-year-old man who has gone missing off the Welsh coast.
Milford Haven Coastguard had co-ordinated an extensive air and sea search for missing dinghy sailor Arthur Ray Taylor, known as Archie, in Cardigan on Saturday evening.
He went missing after going out on his boat in the Gwbert area of Ceredigion on Saturday. He was last seen at around 9.30am on Saturday and the alarm was raised at 5.15pm.
Police said he left his accommodation to take his boat out to sea off Gwbert boat club.
Police are appealing for video or photographs of the coastal area in connection with their search.
A force spokesman said: “Police are especially seeking any video or photographs taken by members of the public of the coastal area around the sea off Gwbert yesterday morning, as they may have captured him sailing.”
Mr Taylor’s boat has been found but he was still unaccounted for on Sunday morning.
Mr Taylor is 5ft 4in tall. He is of slim build and has grey hair. He was wearing a navy jumper and dark grey waterproof jacket.
The Coastguard rescue helicopter from Caernarfon, Cardigan, Gwbert and Moylegrove Coastguard rescue teams and RNLI lifeboats from Cardigan and Fishguard were all involved in the search along with Dyfd-Powys Police.
A spokeswoman for the Maritime and Coastguard Agency said: “After a thorough search of the area, nothing further was found and the search was suspended overnight. Milford Haven Coastguard has resumed a search operation in the area this morning.
“The follow-on search this morning at Cardigan for a missing dinghy sailor has now ended with nothing further found. Coastguard rescue teams only will be making a shoreline search this evening at low water at 6pm.”
