CHRIS Coleman has called up four new players to his Wales squad for his side’s Portugal training camp ahead of their crucial World Cup qualifier against Serbia next month.

Everton youngster Gethin Jones, Exeter’s 16-year-old talent Ethan Ampadu, Bristol Rovers man Tom Lockyer and Barnsley ace Marley Watkins were all celebrating their first call-ups to the national set-up when Coleman announced his 26-man training squad.

“They’ll enjoy it and because they’re excited it’ll lift the tempo up,” said the Wales boss.

“It’s the same at a domestic club, if you want to lift the tempo on a Thursday you bring youth players in.

“But I’m excited and these are exciting times for Wales, because this will be the team for the next three, four five years and they have to start somewhere.”

So, what do we know about the quartet and why is Coleman such a big fan of them?

Here, we take a closer look...

And Jones has plenty of experience wearing the red of Wales having captained his country from the Under-16 set-up right the way through to Under-21 level.

He’s also been making waves at club level, making his first team debut at Goodison Park in a 1-0 Europa League defeat to Russian outfit Krasnodar in December 2014 as well as playing a star role in the opening half of Everton Under-23s Premier League 2 title success.

Jones has continued his development with Championship side Barnsley, making 18 appearances for the Oakwell outfit having joined them on loan in January. when he made his debut in a League Cup game against Brentford aged just 15 years, 10 months and 26 days.

The teenager – son of former Swansea City star Kwame Ampadu – made 13 first team appearances for the Grecians and has already represented Wales at Under-19 level.

He was named Wales’ young player of the year for 2016 and his magnificent rise is even more remarkable when you consider the fact he wasn’t born until September 2000.

But even at the tender age of just 16, Ampadu has already become one of the most talked about prospects in the Welsh set-up and will thrive from being involved with the first team again having previously trained with the senior squad ahead of their stunning Euro 2016 campaign.
