Mesa reveals he turned down La Liga giants

because they happen to play their football at the Liberty.

With Sigurdsson having apparently had his interest of a move piqued by Everton’s admiration – something that Leicester’s interest failed to do – it would also mean the player having to come out and publicly declare he wants away, just a few months on from saying unprompted that he was not looking to leave and would only go if the club wanted to sell.

For all that, if Swansea remain firm and Everton opt against pursuing things, there have been no indications Paul Clement would be left with an unhappy player. Sigurdsson on strike? You can’t see it.

Whether you can see Everton get real and serious with all this remains to be seen.

Whether you see him as a £50m player is up to you.

But, in the world of Premier League transfers, the player market is like the housing market: they are only worth what they are to you or the interested buyer.

Is Sigurdsson worth £50m? It’s irrelevant. For Swansea, he is worth fighting for – no matter what you think of the price tag. SWANSEA City new boy Roque Mesa has revealed he chose to move to the Premier League despite interest from Sevilla and Atletico Madrid.

Paul Clement made the midfielder his third signing of the summer when the 28-year-old put pen to paper on a four-year deal in SA1.

The £11million signing said it has always been his dream to play in the Premier League and cannot wait to get started with his new club.

Mesa is due to fly out with the rest of the squad to America tomorrow as Swansea ramp up their pre-season preparations.

“I’ve just arrived, I’m seeing how everything works here, I have to get used to it.

“I’ve been told that Swansea is the city where it rains the most, just as I have to check my contract,” laughed Mesa .

“The Premier League is one of my dreams, since I was a little boy I wanted to play there and thanks to Swansea I have been able to fulfil it.

“There have been rumours, but Swansea from the beginning have given me facilities, took interest in me, the coach noticed me and that was key, but yes, I can say that I was closer to Sevilla than Atletico Madrid.”

Diego Simeone’s side were keen on Mesa and attempted to hijack Swansea’s deal with the deep-lying player, but the fact the negotiations were far down the line, and the notso-insignificant fact Atletico are currently under a transfer embargo, swayed the move Clement’s way.

Mesa conducted an emotional farewell press conference last week to say he goodbyes to his boyhood club.

He said: “I have given everything for Las Palmas, the club helped me in the start and I leave money that will help, the most expensive transfer in history, so both sides win.”
