Motorcycle death: Police appeal for information
POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist was killed in a crash in Port Talbot.
The 37-year-old, from the Sandfields area of the town, was pronounced dead at the scene of the collision on Cwmavon Road.
Police say the man’s family are being supported by specialist officers, and they are appealing for anybody who saw the crash yesterday morning to come forward.
The two-vehicle collision happened around 10am, near to where the road passes under the M4. Cwmavon Road was closed for around five and a half hours while emergency services and collision investigators were at the scene.
The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, and for anybody who saw the bike being driven in the moments before the crash.
A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “Police are appealing for information following a fatal road traffic collision which occurred in Port Talbot at approximately 10am on Sunday, August 6.
“A motorcyclist is understood to have been in collision with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction and whilst travelling along Cwmavon Road.
“The road was closed following the incident but re-opened at 3.37pm – the public are thanked for their understanding.
“Anybody who may have witnessed the collision or the manner of driving of the motorcyclist in the moments leading up to the incident is urged to contact police.”
Port Talbot councillor Saifur Rahaman said: “This is a tragic incident. My thoughts are with this man’s family at this very sad time.”
