Gower beauty spot named a perfect picnic spot
THREE Cliffs Bay has come up top trumps when it comes to picking the best spot for a picnic.
It was voted to the top of the charts by 2,000 families via entertainment app Disneylife. The beach’s sweeping sands and quirky rock formations are well visited by locals and tourists alike – so it’s no wonder the beach is a top pick for jam sandwiches and sausage rolls.
But it was not the only place in Wales that made it to the top 10.
Aberporth beach in Ceredigion was voted third and Dolbadarn Castle in Snowdonia came 10th.
A third of those surveyed said they would drive over an hour to settle for lunch at a beauty spot, and nearly a fifth would be willing to haul their hamper two hours away from home.
Other parts of the survey found that an overwhelming 98% agree that going for a family picnic in a beautiful location is one of the best things to do in the summer holidays.
In July, Rhossili was named in the top 10 beaches in the UK, putting it alongside Panama, Hawaii and Thailand.
Councillor Robert Francis-Davies, Swansea Council’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and major projects, said at the time: “Tourism is already worth more than £400m a year to Swansea’s economy, but recognition of this kind will further raise Swansea Bay’s profile right across the world.
“This will hopefully result in increased awareness, visits, spend and jobs locally.
“Swansea’s stunning coastal scenery is a key part of our culture that we’ll be looking to further celebrate and share if we’re successful in our bid to become UK City of Culture 2021.”
