CARDIFF Blues are considering a life ban for the fan who threw beer at touchjudge George Clancy at the Arms Park.

The supporter was swiftly ejected from the ground following the incident, which was captured on television during the Guinness PRO14 clash with Glasgow.

Now regional officials are to meet to decide what action to take against the fan, who was wearing a Blues shirt.

Chief executive Richard Holland said: “The incident was dealt with pretty swiftly and efficiently by our stewarding and security team and the individual concerned was ejected from the ground.

“I spoke to George Clancy after the game and apologised on behalf of the club and he appreciated and accepted that.

“It’s an extremely-serious incident and the individual concerned won’t be welcome back at the ground for the foreseeable future.

“We will assess the situation and deal with it in the appropriate manner. At this stage, a life ban is a serious consideration.

“It doesn’t look good at all. There is no place for this kind of thing in rugby and such behaviour will not be tolerated. You can’t condone it. There is no excuse for it.

“We will make a decision in due course and we will be taking the necessary action.”

The beer-throwing provoked an outraged reaction on social media, with the fan’s actions being widely condemned. Former England flyhalf Andy Goode called for the person concerned to be banned for life by the Blues.

The match ended in a 20-19 victory for Glasgow Warriors, with home fly-half Steve Shingler missing a late penalty which would have won the game.
