Wilson on radar as Saints look at coaching shake-up

CARDIFF Blues head coach Danny Wilson has emerged as a possible target for Northampton Saints.

Wilson has close on two seasons left on his contract at the Arms Park, having negotiated an extra year in 2016.

But, according to the Rugby Paper, he is on the radar of the Saints as they mull over whether to reshuffle their coaching staff.

The suggestion is the east Midlands club might want him to take on the forwards coach role he filled so successfully at the Scarlets between 2012 and 2014 and before that at the Dragons.

Wilson joined Cardiff Blues from Bristol after the English club missed out on promotion to the Aviva Premiership in 2015.

It hasn’t always been easy for him at the Arms Park, with financial constraints not helping, but he is highly regarded on the circuit and during his time with the Scarlets the improvement in their forward play was clear to see.

Should Saints succeed in prising him away from the Blues, there would be a major question mark over the position of their current forwards coach, Wrexham-born England World Cup winner Dorian West.

It is speculated that a possible move for the 49-year-old would be to work alongside his old Leicester team-mate Dean Richards at Newcastle Falcons.

Cardiff Blues dropped to the foot of Guinness PRO14 Conference A at the weekend, despite managing to arrest a three-game losing start to the season with victory over Connacht.
