Will Joshua’s next stop be Twickenham?

-

PROMOTER Eddie Hearn has delivered a potential knockout blow to Cardiff’s hopes of staging a second blockbusting Anthony Joshua world title fight in the near future.

In the build up to Joshua’s successful WBA and IBF heavyweight title defence against a resilient Carlos Takam at the Principality Stadium on October 28, reports suggested more big fight nights were being planned in the Welsh capital. Hearn pointed to the Stadium’s roof during the winter months as a major draw for returning to Wales.

But with potential box office showdowns against WBC champion Deontay Wilder or WBO belt holder Joseph Parker being mooted, Hearn now claims the 82,000 home of English rugby at Twickenham would be the next option if Wembley Stadium cannot fit in a date due to hosting Spurs football matches.

“Wembley is quite difficult this year,” Hearn told The Times. “We have already been in contact with them and the options aren’t great.

“We basically want the biggest possible stadium and if Wembley is not available the next best would be Twickenham.”

Wilder accused Joshua of ‘dodging’ him after retaining his title with a first round stoppage of Bermane Stiverne in the States on Saturday, but Hearn told the newspaper, he’s no problem taking on the WBC belt holder next.

“We’ve no problem fighting Wilder, whether it is spring or summer.“
