Sheedy commits to Bristol

-

CARDIFF-BORN Callum Sheedy, previously torn between pledging his international allegiance to Wales or Ireland, has now joined the English-qualified players contingent at Bristol after penning a new two-year deal with the west country club.

Sheedy, who was born in the Welsh capital and attended the city’s Corpus Christi High School until the age of 16, has signed a twoyear deal.

After school, he took up the offer of a scholarship at Millfield School and came up through the Academy system at Bristol RFC.

Despite currently being third in line for the 10 jersey at Bristol this term, behind Irish international Ian Madigan and Billy Searle, 22-year-old Sheedy believes Bristol is the best place for him.

“I’m loving it at Bristol this season and happy to commit my future in what is an exciting period for the club,” he told the Bristol Rugby website.

“It’s been great to work with the coaching team – there’s clarity for the players about what is expected of them.

“I’m enjoying the attacking freedom of our system and there’s obviously a real desire to be competing at the top level, which is enticing for any player.

“The important thing for me now is to repay that faith from the club and keep working hard on my game.”

Bristol coach Pat Lam is delighted Sheedy has put pen to paper on a new deal and even more so as the young No.10 has now achieved English-qualified player status.

“Callum is a player who the coaching team are excited about,” said Lam.

“He has recently achieved English-qualified (EQP) status, which is an important focus for Bristol Rugby.

“The impetus now is for him to push on and continue to show the coaches and fans what he is capable of in a Bristol jersey.”
