Council seeking to sell prime residential development site

-

A PRIME residential development site in south Wales has been put up for sale.

The 10.18-acre site in the village of Undy, Monmouthshire, is being marketed by Savills on behalf of owners Monmouthshire County Council.

The site is the first phase of the mixed-use Rockfield Farm regeneration scheme.

Gareth Carter, director at Savills’ Cardiff office, who is managing the disposal, said: “This is the first phase of development at Rockfield Farm and will initially provide for 144 units, approximately 36 of which will be affordable dwellings. Later phases will provide employment opportunities and additional housing.

“A demand for housing in Monmouthshire is strong and with the removal of the Severn Bridge crossings tolls next year, we expect this site will attract developers and home buyers from the South-West of England in addition to those who operate in south Wales.”

The land, for which there is outline planning permission for residential use, is being sold by tender.

Monmouthshire County Council councillor Phil Murphy said: “The development of Rockfield Farm in phases has been a strategic objective of the council for several years.

“In addition to the provision of much-needed private and affordable housing, the council will receive financial contributions to develop and improve existing areas of open space, public transport and proposed new rail stations.

“The capital receipt will be re-circulated into the authority’s 21st Century Schools programme.”
