Iconic restaurant’s new owners plan a change of function
A TOP Gower hotel and restaurant is closing – to reopen purely as a wedding and function venue.
The new owners of five-star Fairyhill, near Burry Green – who added the business to a portfolio which also includes fellow Gower hotel, Oldwalls, last year – confirmed plans to close for the foreseeable future, despite being at the centre of Wales’s hospitality scene for more than 30 years.
It was thought that the iconic Gower property, which is currently closed for a major redevelopment, would reopen next month, but that is no longer the case.
Instead it has been decided to concentrate solely on transforming the grade two listed house into a dedicated wedding venue launch in March.
Manager-director Andrew Hole said: “It’s been a really difficult decision for us – Fairyhill holds a dear place in the hearts of so many.
“However, the hospitality industry has moved on and there’s less call for fine-dining restaurants in today’s climate, so adapting is essential.”
The move is believed to enable those who hire the building as a wedding venue to have exclusive use of the hotel and grounds.
Fairyhill will be open to members of the public on Sunday from noon to 5pm as part of its wedding showcase programme, which will include the unveiling of a new bar. that will
