Carmarthen looking to end their season of ‘hurt’

- JD Welsh Premier John Edwards sport@walesonline.co.uk

CARMARTHEN Town manager Mark Aizlewood is realistic about his side’s desperate plight as they attempt to win on home soil for the first time this season against Prestatyn Town this afternoon.

The Old Gold are eight points adrift at the bottom, with just four points to show from 13 matches, with today’s opponents the team immediately above them.

Aizlewood said: “It’s getting to be a desperate situation now and we have 19 games left. The players are hurting, the supporters are hurting, the directors are hurting and the staff are hurting. Retaining our Premier League status is our only goal from this point on.”

Defeat today against a Prestatyn side, who have not won on their travels this season, and Aizlewood’s task will begin to look like mission impossible.

Newtown, who only head Prestatyn on goal difference, had lost four on the trot before last week’s welcome 2-0 success over Carmarthen. They will be looking to build on that triumph when buoyant Barry Town United, victors over The New Saints and Llandudno in their last two matches, visit Latham Park.

The Robins suffered midweek disappointment when a late Eliot Evans goal ended their Nathaniel MG cup hopes, Cardiff Met reaching their first major cup final with a 1-0 in.

The students are in action tomorrow when they entertain surprise package Cefn Druids, whose shock 1-0 defeat to strugglers Aberystwyth last week was their first league loss in eight matches. That run earned manager Huw Griffiths the manager of the month award for October so it was on the cards that the curse of the award should strike last week.
